More Fish for our Table

 
 

 

Fish and fish products are important and tasty supplement for the table of the inhabitants of our country. The fish entities chain supplying markets with comparatively cheap fish has been developed in Uzbekistan. However modern conditions of life require development of fish industry in view of raising productivity, creating additional jobs places and profits by creating small fish entities. To achieve these challenges, it is necessary to develop scientific and educational activity in the field of fishery and aquaculture, to apply new technologies of fish breeding in reservoirs, to intensify training of ichthyologists, to work out cheap and high-calorie food for fish in reservoirs.
The Republic of Uzbekistan is interested in studying the experience of foreign countries for its future use. Thus, a lot of seminars, conferences and trainings devoted to the problems of sustainable development of fish farming are regularly held in the country. One of such seminars was opened at the Capital’s hotel ‘Grand-Orzu’ on 12 January. Following the purpose of the program ‘Development of Fish Industry in Central Asia’ by the Food and Agricultural Organization of UNO (FAO), its subject is the “Regional Seminar on Assessment of Necessity in Education, Training and Research in Fish Industry (fishery and aquaculture) of Central Asia’. The Ministry of Agriculture and Water Resources of the Republic of Uzbekistan, the Institute of Zoology of the Academy of Sciences and the FAO organized this seminar. The specialists – fish- breeders, scientists, ichthyologists from Turkey, Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan and the Representative of the Sub-regional Office of FAO (FAOSEC) took part in the seminar. They shared their experience of fish industry development with the participants of the seminar, spoke about the problems and ways of their overcoming.
During the discussion, the common opinion has been worked out on necessity of widening cooperation between the national and regional research and educational institutes, identifying potential educational institutions that can train professional fish-breeders, exchange modern technologies of fish breeding in reservoirs and develop the project for the investments in the research of regional fish industry.
The seminar will continue its work till 14 January 2010.
