Ecological Stability of Future Challenges the Youth

 
 

 

The state pays a great attention to youth’s education as well as to raising of the role of youth in environment protection and resolution of the actual ecological problems such as climate change, preservation of biodiversity, prevention of desertification, efficient use of national resources.
At the initiative of the Committee for Agrarian and Water Economy Problems and Ecology of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and the State Committee for Nature Protection the round-table meeting on the ‘Actual Ecological Problems and the Role of Youth in their Resolution’ devoted to 2010- the ‘Year of the Harmoniously Developed Generation’, was organized at the Palace of Cultural of the National University of Uzbekistan named after Mirzo Ulugbek on 26 February.
Khamabay Razzakov - the Chairman of the Committee for Agrarian and Water Economy Problems and Ecology of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Pepublic of Uzbekistan, Gafurjan Mukhamedov – a member of the Senate of Oliy Majlis of the Pepublic of Uzbekistan, rector of the National University of Uzbekistan, Nariman Umarov – the Chairman of the State Committee for Nature Protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan, Bakijon Muminov – the dean of Biology and Soil Faculty of the National University of Uzbekistan, heads and leading specialists of the State Committee for Nature Protection, representatives of international organizations: the Program of Small Grants of the Global Ecological Facility (GEF) in Uzbekistan, the British Council as well as the teaching stuff, post-graduates, masters and students of the National University of Uzbekistan, representatives of mass media took part in this meeting.
The participants of the meeting discussed the problems of climate change and the youth’s initiatives, preservation of biodiversity, and education of harmoniously developed generation, participation of youth in implementation of the Program of Small Grants of GEF in Uzbekistan and the problems of introduction of the continuous ecological education for sustainable development (ESD).
A lot of questions about the role and opportunities of youth in taking decisions on the ecological problems, sending the youth to natural protection ministries and departments for practical work, strengthening of cooperation of the National University of Uzbekistan and the State Committee for Nature Protection of the Republic of Uzbekistan were asked during the discussion.
The participants of this meeting expressed a number of wishes and made proposals on involving of the youth in resolution of the ecological problems of the country. The organizers will apply these proposals in their further activity.
The youth makes up no less than 60% of the population of our country; the future of the country belongs to them and how else but they should actively participate in resolution of the ecological problems. It is not accidental that 2010 is declared in Uzbekistan the ‘Year of the Harmoniously Development Generation’.
